MARIGOT--Board members from Soroptimists Club of St. Martin were at Cité Scolaire Wednesday morning to distribute school materials.

Cité Scolaire was just one of 13 schools on a list for delivery of materials as well as the special needs school SESSAD. The donations were made possible through the kindness of the Kiwanis Club of Guadeloupe.

The Soroptimists, in collaboration with the school nurse and social worker, also offered breakfast to all the students on Wednesday and will repeat the gesture on Friday. It was understood that some students were coming to school on empty stomachs.

“The Collège students received 200 sandwiches and another 250 were in reserve for the ones that had not eaten at home. All the sandwiches were eaten and much appreciated,” noted Nurse Severine Boucau. “I would like to thank the Soroptimists for organising this initiative.”

Social worker Danielle Hilaire also thanked the Soroptimists for the school materials.

Richard Richardson from his RI Snack mobile van said the sandwiches took two and a half hours to prepare.

“We prepared for 450 children but it was not enough. We will make more on Friday. It’s a pleasure to serve the children. We have been doing it for 10 years now,” he said.
