South Leo Club donates laptops to primary school

South Leo Club members on Tuesday donating three laptops to Sister Marie Laurence School management.

MIDDLE REGION--St. Maarten South Leo Club presented three laptops to Sister Marie Laurence School on Tuesday with the help of Dan Hayes, a teacher and resident of New York with family ties in St. Maarten.

When visuals of the destruction caused by Hurricane Irma hit the Internet, Hayes took immediate action. He immediately set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for those in need on the island. After some weeks of raising funds among friends and family in the United States, Hayes got in contact with South Leo Club to ensure that the funds raised went towards an educational project on the island.

After taking some months to make a proper assessment of the schools’ damage, the Leo Club chose to purchase laptops for Sister Marie Laurence School in Middle Region.

Sister Marie Laurence school suffered by far the most hurricane damage, and worse damage due to looting, according to the school. The laptops will provide an innovative environment for the pupils for e-learning.
