ST. EUSTATIUS--The two-week general clean-up campaign at St. Eustatius launched by Statia Waste Solutions, in collaboration with the Island government, ended on Thursday. The clean-up was deemed a great success as many persons took advantage of the opportunity to dispose of debris that was littering their homes and surroundings. Some persons still had debris from the hurricanes that passed the island in September last year.

The clean-up campaign included Oranjestad, Paramiraweg and the districts of North, South, Country, Cherry Tree, Golden Rock, Bay Brow, Jeems, Zeelandia, Rosemary Lane, Whitewall, Lodi and Princess.

Statia Waste Solutions oversees the recycling plant and the collection of garbage in Statia. Jeffrey Lewis of managing company EJL Services BV, said that in the future there may be another island-wide clean-up, but, “We need to process what we collected before taking on more at that rate. Also, the funds need to be approved again,” he said.

Lewis thanked all those who cooperated in making use of this opportunity to dispose of their garbage, especially now during hurricane season.
