PHILIPSBURG--The St. Maarten Police Force KPSM arrested three students last week who were involved in two separate school fights.
Police’s Juvenile Department arrested a minor R.A.C. on Thursday, October 3, who was involved in a fight that occurred that same day. After being questioned, the suspect was detained at Miss Lalie Center, pending further investigation.
Two other students, J.I.A and J.K.C., were arrested on Thursday for a fight that took place at Sol St. Peters gas station on Friday, September 27, where a group of teenagers assaulted a father and his son. The victims later made an official complaint to detectives at the Juvenile Department. A statement has been taken from both suspects in this case, said police on Saturday.
After being interrogated, A. was held for further investigation and was detained at Miss Lalie Center. The other suspect was released into the custody of his parents.
The Prosecutor’s Office and police have recently taken a firm position to fights occurring in and around schools, as part of a zero-tolerance policy.
Police remind students about the zero-tolerance policy and urge parents and the wider community to get involved in trying to alleviate this problem. “Parents of students involved in these fights should also be reminded they are also partly responsible for the behaviour attributed to their children,” said police in a press release.
