Supermarket employees shot in failed robbery bid

MARIGOT—Two Chinese supermarket employees paid the price for fighting back when they attempted to prevent an armed robbery from taking place Thursday evening, as both are in hospital with bullet wounds.

The attempted armed robbery took place at around 7:00pm at a Chinese supermarket in Grand Case, the Gendarmerie disclosed in a release issued Friday morning.

One of the two masked robbers held a cashier at gun point to steal the contents of the cash drawer.

However one employee courageously attempted to grapple with one of the robbers to stop the theft of the money.  Another employee joined in and both engaged in a violent physical confrontation with the two robbers, before both employees were shot, but not fatally.

Due to the determination of the employees, the robbers gave up and escaped without obtaining any money. The two employees were rapidly transported to the French-side hospital by the Pompiers. Despite the bullet wounds their lives are not in danger, the Gendarmerie added.

Detectives (Section de Recherches) has opened an investigation into the shootings and attempted robbery under the direction of the prosecutor’s office. The suspects are sought for attempted robbery and violence causing a work interruption (Interruption de Travail) to the victims of over eight days.
