Surviving shooting victim arrested for ill-treatment

PHILIPSBURG--The man who was seriously injured in the Thursday, October 3, shooting on Pond Island was arrested for ill-treatment on Sunday, October 6.

The shooting incident stemmed from a dispute between a man A.R. and two other men, L.A.L.H. and F.T.C.R., over a matter of business. This altercation apparently turned violent, as L.A.L.H. and F.T.C.R. supposedly assaulted A.R. with a baseball bat that morning.

A.R. left the area following the altercation, returned shortly afterward with a gun and shot L.A.L.H. and F.T.C.R.

F.T.C.R. died at the scene, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound. L.A.L.H. was shot multiple times and was treated at the scene by Ambulance Department personnel. He was later transported to St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC), where he was said to be in serious condition.

After being released by SMMC, L.A.L.H. was arrested for having ill-treated the man who subsequently shot him. Both men are currently being held at the Philipsburg police station pending further investigation.
