Tree-planting

As the initiators of National Tree Day in St. Maarten, St. Maarten Archaeological Centre Simarc students have planted trees on March 22 – Tree Day – every year since 2008.

This year, they worked with the Leo and Lions Clubs to plant a large Yellow Poui tree at the A.Th. Illidge Road roundabout, a location planned as an eventual Lions Park. Community organisational cooperation projects like this tree-planting can be either large or small, but what is most important is working together for the positive beautification and growth of St. Maarten, said Simarc. The group thanked everyone who participated and reminded them that trees are a vital part of the community space.
