~ Board agrees to meet with Jacobs ~
CAY HILL--Two members of the board of the National Institute of Professional Advancement (NIPA) have tendered their resignations from the board.
The resignation of the two members seemed to have cleared a key stumbling block for better relations with Government as Education Minister Silveria Jacobs was scheduled to have her first meeting with the remaining board members.
Jacobs said Government had received notification that Chairperson of the board Marcela Hazel and Government’s representative Stanley Hodge had resigned. The Minister did not mention the members by name, just by their position.
Henrietta Green, who had represented the unions had resigned some time back as she had been moving to the Netherlands. The remaining members of the board are Kenrick Housen, Selby Philips and Ivette Jessurun-Franca.
Jacobs told reporters at the Council of Ministers weekly press briefing on Wednesday that she will be meeting with the board. She said the remaining board members are moving forward and she looks forward to a new board being put in place and she is hoping that the transition takes place seamlessly. The Minister said she is not ignoring the fact of board members being held liable if there had been mismanagement.
In the meantime, the Minister said she understood that staff members have since been paid their salary. The salaries had been late due to a lien that had been placed on the institute’s accounts by a former staffer based on a court verdict.
