Two pilots held after 57.6kg cocaine found in small plane

MARIGOT--Two pilots have been arrested after 57.6kg of cocaine was recently found hidden in two suitcases in a small private plane at Grand Case Airport. The discovery was made by officers of Police aux Frontieres (PAF) during routine controls. The pilots at the time were attending to the plane on the apron which had broken down.

A third suspect fled, but was later apprehended. The two pilots ages 23 and 26 were presented before a magistrate from Juridiction Inter Regionale Specialisee (JIRS) of Fort de France, Martinique, and placed in detention.

The investigation has been entrusted to Office Central pour la Repression du Traffic Illicite des Stupefiants (OCRTIS) and PAF Guadeloupe to determine the exact role of the suspects, to learn whether other persons are implicated and whether this was part of a wider international trafficking ring.

The suspects can face up to 30 years in prison if found guilty.
