UPDATE:Stabbing victim dies

PHILIPSBURG--The stabbing victim S.K. who was involved in the brawl with another man on Madrid Drive in Dutch Quarter at 1:15pm Tuesday afternoon passed away in the St. Maarten Medical Center Emergency Room.

The reason behind the fight remains unknown as police detectives interview witnesses close to the home where the stabbing took place.

Police spokesman Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson told The Daily Herald that the suspect believed to have committed the stabbing is in custody. “On the scene, investigating officers encountered the victim who was bleeding from several stab wounds he had suffered. The victim was treated on the scene by paramedics and rushed to the St. Maarten Medical Center for further medical treatment.

"Two house searches were done during which one spent bullet cartridge was found. Two motor vehicles were confiscated for further investigation. The reason why this incident happened is still unclear," stated Henson.

This newspaper understands that the incident had to do with a parking spot. The two men started arguing on Monday evening about who should be parking in a lot situated close to their homes.

Police Forensic investigators were at the scene and collected several items that can help with the investigation.
