VROMI: wrecks, illegally placed cars to be removed

PHILIPSBURG--A project geared at removing all car wrecks and illegally placed cars from public roads and spaces is slated to commence October 7, and continue through to May 2016. The project is a collaboration between Ministry of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure VROMI and Community Police Officers.

“Vehicles belonging to persons matching the criteria of unpaid road tax, out-dated inspection, abandonment, and hazardous to public safety will be advised with official warning to remove their vehicles. Failure to do so will result in the vehicle being towed or even crushed,” VROMI stated in a press release. “Further attention will also be invested in illegal garages.”

“The project comes after thorough communication with community councils and careful observation of the increasing number of car wrecks and illegally placed cars that cause a nuisance, are health hazardous and often dangerous for communities through becoming infested with rodents and waste,” VROMI said.

The project should take place on Wednesdays between 8:00am and 12 noon. Each month, a district will be scheduled for cleaning. The schedule will be announced on the Government Information Page one week in advance.

The proposed monthly schedule will start with Cole Bay in October, and end with Lowlands/Beacon Hill/Maho in May. In order, these are: Cole Bay; Cul de Sac Basin (northern area); Cul de Sac Basin (southern area); Dutch Quarter/Belvedere; Simpsonbay/Pelican/Cay Bay/Indigo Bay; Lower Prince’s Quarter; Great Bay/Upper Prince’s Quarter; and Lowlands/Beacon Hill/Maho.
