Walk with a purpose

A breast cancer walk for a cure and fundraiser were held on St. Eustatius on Tuesday. St. Eustatius Police took care of the walkers’ safety as well as the crowd that turned out along the route. Golden Rock Cancer Awareness Foundation (GRCAF) organized the walk.

At the start of the walk, Roman Catholic Father Simon Wilson said the invocation, Reverend Vincia Celestine of the Methodist Church and Pastor Merville Hazel of Bible Baptist Church offered prayers at the end. Ishn Courtar sang “Hallelujah” at the boardwalk. Walkers, many in pink, included Deputy Government Commissioner Mervyn Stegers, Mega D Youth Foundation and Daughters of the King Foundation. The walk banner, donated by DOTK, read: “Overcome Through Courage & Strength. Fight Like a Girl.” A breast cancer awareness benefit dinner in aid of GRCAF will be held on Saturday.
