Opposition: ‘We have absolutely no problem with Jules James.’ Yea, right!

Dear Editor,

It was amazing to hear the opposition members in Parliament on April 1, trying their best to make us believe their stalling tactics had nothing to do with Jules James’ credentials. Their common chorus was: “We have absolutely no problem whatsoever with Mr. Jules James’ appointment as substitute Member of Parliament.”

However, on March 25, a public meeting was convened, not one was present, so no quorum! After all, the coalition did not have eight members of its own.

Again, on March 27, another public meeting was called, in the morning, no quorum; in the afternoon, as a sham two opposition members signed in to attempt to derail the meeting again. Other opposition members refused to give a quorum.

Coming out of the opposition corner, it was being said: “Let us keep the pressure on the UD/SMCP coalition.” The opposition was under the assumption that US/SMCP would have had no other alternative but to seek a new coalition or broaden the current one. The US Party camp was even more direct, they would have no problem giving a quorum, once US P can be afforded the Ministry of Justice. They even have a candidate in mind, it’s rumoured.

Abraham Lincoln once said: “You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.”
