SYDNEY--Australian Cliff Marisma donned 40kg (88 pounds) of armour, saddled his horse and drove his lance to jousting victory at the St Ives Medieval Faire in Sydney.
Marisma was presented with a gold medallion after coming out top in an international field when Dutchman Arne Koets was forced to retire from the final after falling in the first pass on Sunday.
"Honoured, privileged, grateful, good," Marisma told Reuters after the two-day meet of eye-catching hits and painful falls.
The third edition of the annual medieval festival also featured battle re-enactments, comedy from jesters and archery demonstrations.
