At 1100 AM AST (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Depression Gert was located near latitude 28.7 North, longitude 54.6 West. The depression is moving toward the east near 7 mph (11 km/h). This motion is forecast to continue today. A turn toward the northeast is expected over the weekend.

Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph (55 km/h) with higher gusts. Gert could become a tropical storm later today. The system is forecast to become post-tropical or dissipate by the end of the weekend.
