NASSAU, The Bahamas--A total of 124 Haitian migrants were apprehended early Sunday morning, December 30, 2018, by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) after they were discovered in Bahamian waters.

The Haitians – 107 men and 24 women – were in a 40-foot sail sloop which was intercepted around 3:00am, approximately eight miles south of New Providence.

The migrants were all handed over to immigration officials for further questioning.

The RBDF apprehended or assisted in apprehending over 400 Haitian migrants in 2018. Those migrants have since been charged before the courts for illegal landing.

The RBDF said it remained committed to protecting the territorial integrity of the Bahamas and keeping borders secured. ~ Caribbean360 ~
