DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK

At 1100 AM AST (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Paulette was located near latitude 18.4 North, longitude 43.3 West. Paulette is moving toward the northwest near 6 mph (9 km/h). A turn toward the west-northwest or west with a slight increase in forward speed is expected during the next couple of days.

 

Maximum sustained winds are near 65 mph (100 km/h) with higher gusts. Moderate additional strengthening is possible today and Paulette could be near hurricane strength by tonight. Gradual weakening is expected by late Wednesday.

 

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 105 miles (165 km) from the center.

 

The estimated minimum central pressure is 995 mb (29.39 inches).
