PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad--Two magnitude 4.5 earthquakes were recorded off Trinidad and Tobago in the early hours of Wednesday morning, less than half an hour apart. However, neither resulted in any damage or injury, according to initial reports.
The University of the West Indies (UWI) Seismic Research Centre reported that the first one occurred around 2:29am.
Its location was put at 55 kilometres (km) north-northwest of Trinidad’s capital Port of Spain; 66km northwest of Arima, Trinidad; and 95km west of Tobago’s capital Scarborough.
Some residents reported hearing a rumbling and feeling the tremor.
Then 25 minutes later, the second one hit further away from Trinidad and closer to Venezuela – 115km west-southwest of Port of Spain; 80km east-southeast of Carúpano, Venezuela; and 107km northeast of Maturín, Venezuela.
The initial depth of both quakes was put at 10km – a fixed depth that is used when there is insufficient data to compute a reliable depth for an earthquake. ~ Caribbean360 ~
