Team Island Water World overall winners in St.Maarten Yacht club sailing series 2017-18 With the start of the Hurricane season the yacht racing in the Caribbean also comes to a end and the last Club race of the St.Maarten yacht club was sailed on sunday.
In perfect sailing conditions 3 races where sailed with Team Island Water World as well winning the last race of the series , also won the "Boat of the year "award , winning the overall of the races in the 2017-18 season. Team island Water World Too, also in the Melges 24 finished 3 rd on the day but a second overall in the total scored races this season. The IWW 2 team is a youth team of the smyc, coming out of the youth program , sailing in dinghys and then moving up in bigger boats, and the youngsters can be proud of finishing in a second spot. Team IWW 1, can look back on another very succesfull racing season with winning most of the regattas, First in Commodores Cup, First in Heineken regatta, second in La Voile de St.Barths, First in Angulla regatta and now the Overall winner of the sailing series.Acoording to skipper Frits Bus, the success is mainly because of consistency in the team , with its members now sailing together for many years: on the picture left to right Team IWW:Frits Bus, Joep Groenendijk, Olivier Bernaz, Benoit Meesemaecker, Bernard La Fourie.
