MARIGOT--On Wednesday, March 8, the second edition of the Saint Martinoise Girls race was held, organised by Avenir Sportif Club de Saint-Martin (ASCSM). The aim of the club is to encourage girls to take up sport, but also to celebrate International Women's Rights Day by taking part in a sporting event.
This year's event which was open to school children brought together 132 girls in different classes, who were motivated to compete on the 2km course between the Galisbay car park and the pier. The morning started with a collective warm-up, then it was time for the race.
It was under a hot sun that these young girls set off, and their efforts were rewarded as they all received a medal and a diploma attesting to their participation in the race. The morning ended with a tombola with several prizes offered by Dauphin Telecom, the Art and Design shop, Lipstick and Canal+.
Collège Mont des Accords won the first three places on the podium. The race was supported by Crédit Mutuel, Super U, Delta Petroleum, Eyes2Eyes, Le Pélican, Rapido Print, Go Sport, Arcelor Mittal, Collectivité de Saint-Martin and Semsamar.
The adult La Saint-Martinoise race is on Saturday, March 11. Registration on website http://sport-timing-caraïbes.com.
