PHILIPSBURG--The BDO Half Marathon Powered by ILTT is back for its third year. Everyone can participate, whether you’re looking to run, walk, and simply enjoy the beautiful outdoors. The Half Marathon will take place on Sunday, May 4, at Port de Plaisance.
Participants can choose for a 21km Half Marathon, 10km, or 5km run, or a relaxing 7.5km walk around Sint Maarten’s beautiful Simpson Bay Lagoon. Whether you're a seasoned runner, a casual jogger, or a nature enthusiast, there's a perfect option for you. The highlight of the day is the 21km BDO Half Marathon, where runners will have the unique opportunity to experience both the Dutch and French sides of the island while running around the whole lagoon. The race will start and finish at Port de Plaisance, ensuring breathtaking views throughout the course.
This year’s event is again sponsored by BDO, along with support from ILTT, Tri Sport, Princess Casino, Country Club at Port de Plaisance and WeAre!SXM.
Together, we aim to create a fantastic morning that stimulates running, walking and celebrating friendship, and the beauty of our island. “This event is about more than just racing; it's a chance for everyone to connect, stay active, and enjoy the beautiful landscape,” said Krispijn Teunissen, president of St. Maarten Road Runners. “Whether you’re competing for a personal best or simply enjoying a nice stroll, there’s something for everyone.” Participants can look forward to well-marked routes and refreshment stations along the way as they enjoy the course around the lagoon. After the race, all participants will receive a medal to recognize their achievement. The atmosphere after the race will be enjoyable, with music, food, and a delicious breakfast available. It’s a great opportunity to relax and socialize with fellow racers during the celebration.
Registration is open until May 1, and there is a maximum of 300 participants for the event. Make sure to register early to secure your spot!
