College ballplayer King visits future stars

POND ISLAND—St. Maarten college baseball player Junior King has returned home after his first semester of college.
On the field, King who plays the outfield, played in 26 games. He averaged .368. He connected for one home run, had 15 runs batted in, scored eight times and stole four bases.

King is a freshman at Genesee College in New York. Spring training in New York was almost non-existent this year due to snow.
“We were in second place going into the last weekend of the season,” said King. Due to weather, the team had to play four back to back games. “We lost them all and finished in fifth place, just out of the playoffs.
Behind the desk his stats were equally impressive.
His first stop after arriving back on the Friendly Island was the St. Maarten Little League Field. He met with up and coming ballplayers from his old team Player Development.
“You have to work hard to get anywhere in life,” King told the children. “You have to have good grades, or the coach won’t even let you play.” He continued to say if your grades are not good you cannot even try out for the team.
King talked with the children for approximately 20 minutes and then took the group on the field to run a few “College” drills.
