Cycling delegation returns from Curacao with medals and trophies

SIMPSON BAY—A three-island delegation of cyclists from St. Maarten, St. Martin and Anguilla returned home Monday from participating in Curacao’s famous Le Tour de Schottegat over the weekend bringing back a haul of some 23 medals and trophies.


  11 riders aged from nine to 39 split into several classes and categories competed in three stages consisting of an 8KTime Trial (5K for Junior’s), 60K Criterium and 110K Road Race, with distances depending on age category.
  Representing Team Cyclone from the Dutch side were Patricio “Blade” Carty, Adonijah Romney and Jamal Simon. The French St. Martin ASM team comprised Kendrick Cozier and Jahkim Carty, son of Patricio Carty.
  Double Trouble from Anguilla was represented by Hasani Hennis, Joseph Hercules, Rockeem Romney, Ricardo Romney, Deanthony Niles and Xavi Brookes.
  Patricio Carty for Cyclone cleaned up in the Sub Masters category, winning all three stages; time trial, criterium and road race. Two weeks earlier he won a road race in Aruba.
  For the ASM team, Kenrick Cozier placed second in the road race in Junior’s 15-16 while Xavi Brookes from Double Trouble placed third in the Criterium in Juniors 17-18.
  Andonijah Romney (Cyclone) riding in the 12-13 years category placed third in the Criterium. Jamal Simon (Cyclone) placed third overall, placing third in both criterium and road race.
  Jahkim (green jet) Carty for ASM placed second in the time trial, first in the criterium, and first in the road race.
  Deanthony Niles for Double Trouble placed third overall in the Junior 12-13 category, taking third place in the time trial, second in the criterium and first in the road race.
  Hansani Hennis (Double Trouble) distinguished himself in the Elite category to take first place overall after placing second in the time trial, first in the criterium and second in the road race.  Joseph Hercules (Double Trouble) placed first in the road race in Elites and Rockeem Romney finished third in the road race. Ricardo Romney was named Man of the Race.
  Accompanying the cyclists were Team Managers Edsel Romeny for Cyclone and Brian Hennis for Double Trouble. Otis Simon was team photographer.
