Dee Dee Trotter among big names for 12th International Athletics Meet

MARIGOT—Double Olympic Gold medallist Dee Dee Trotter from the USA will be among several stars of the track at the 12th International Athletics Meet set for May 7, 2016, at the Alberic Richards Stadium.


  Trotter (33) won Gold Medals in the 400 metres at the 2004 and 2008 Olymipcs and a Bronze Medal in the London 2012 Olympics.
  Other notables are 400metres French champion Marie Gayot, European 400 metre champion Libania Grenot from Italy, Junior World champion Wilhem Belocian, and Zharnel Hughes from Anguilla who is in the Usain Bolt running team.
  Countries represented at the event include Kenya, Nigeria, Jamaica, USA, Italy, Turkey, and the Caribbean islands.
  The international athletes will be competing from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. On the programme is Long Jump, 110metre Hurdles, 400 metres and 100 metres.
  The morning from 9:00am to 11:00am will be taken up with competition between the schools of St. Martin and St. Maarten followed by a regional competition between children of different age groups from 11:00am to 4:00pm.
  A raffle has also been organised. Among the prizes is the grand prize of a round-trip air ticket to Paris, as well as air tickets to Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
  Speedy Plus Club, organiser of the event, and the Collectivité encourage the public to come out and cheer on the athletes. Entry to the stadium is 10 euros.
