Jurickson profar
WILLEMSTAD—Curaçao baseball Jurickson Profar will be a teammate of compatriot Ozzie Albies and Aruban Chadwick Tromp at the Atlanta Braves next season. ESPN's Jeff Passan reported that he will sign a contract with the 2021 World Series champions.
Profar broke through at a young age in the American League for the Texas Rangers, where he was seen as a super talent. Serious shoulder injuries meant that he could not immediately fulfil his prom-ise.
Via the Oakland Athletics, San Diego Padres and Colorado Rockies he ended up with the Padres again last season, where he signed a one-year contract for US $1 million.
Profar finally had his definitive breakthrough there and hit 24 home runs. It was the best season of his career and great timing, because after the season he was without a club.
This now earned him a contract with the Braves. He signs a three-year contract for US $42 million and will play in left field in an outfield with Michael Harris III and Ronald Acuña Jr.
Albies is the second baseman of the Braves and Tromp may compete in Spring Training for the role of backup catcher. Profar is Atlanta’s eighth Dutch Caribbean player after Andruw Jones, Randall Si-mon, Jair Jurrjens, Andrelton Simmons, Albies, Kenley Jansen and Tromp.
