CAY HILL--Young Optimist sailor Nathan Sheppard wins Male Athlete of the Year under 13 at Brown Pelican Sports Awards.

The Brown Pelican Sports Awards, celebrate sports passion in St. Maarten. The ceremony took place Sunday at the Aleeze Convention Center and Event Hall. This annual gala, organized by the Department of Sport in collaboration with the National Sport Institute and the St. Maarten Sports and Olympic Federation, serves as a testament to the talents, successes, and achievements of athletes, sports heroes, heroines, and the key contributors who drive sports in the community of St. Maarten. One of the outstanding moments of the evening was when Nathan Sheppard from the St. Maarten Yacht Club was announced winner of the Male Athlete of the Year award (under 13 years old). Nathan's remarkable dedication and accomplishments in sailing were recognized as he proudly claimed the award, a well-deserved honour for his talent and commitment. The SMYC is proud of Nathan's achievement and hopes to support him further on his sailing journey. Furthermore, the SMYC itself earned a nomination as finalist for the title Best Sport Organization. Although the organization did not secure the award, the SMYC is grateful and proud of the support from its instructors, staff, members, sailors, and everyone else involved with the club. The Brown Pelican Sports Awards continue to be an essential way of celebrating sportsmanship and success in St. Maarten. As we reflect on this year's achievements, the SMYC looks forward to the coming year with hope and enthusiasm. The club hopes to see more outstanding individuals nominated for the beautiful sport of sailing.
