St. Maarten young netballers outshine Anguilla counterparts

PHILIPSBURG--The young netballers of St. Maarten outshine their Anguilla counterparts by winning all their matches in the U13 and U16 matches at the L.B. Scott Sports Auditorium over the weekend and on Monday morning also.


  The two teams are in the process of building and developing netball on their respective islands. On St. Maarten, there are presently eight schools doing netball. They are Browlia F. Maillard Campus (MAC 1), Rev. John A. Gumbs Campus (MAC 2), Seventh-day Adventist Primary, St. Dominic Primary, Sister Borgia Primary, St. Joseph Primary, Genevieve De Weever Primary and Hillside Christian Primary.
  For the matches over the weekend, there were two U13 teams and one U16 team from St. Maarten.
  On Monday morning, in front of a huge crowd of primary school children dressed in their uniforms, St. Maarten U13 defeated Anguilla U13 with  a score line 11 to 4. The other U13 team won 10 to 2. The U16 girls defeated Anguilla 19 to 9. The matches in front of the school children will further encouraged young girls to join the sport.
  On Sunday night the scores were for the first U13 team, St. Maarten 23 and Anguilla 10. For the second U13 team, St. Maarten 15 and Anguilla 11.
  In the U16 contest,  St. Maarten scored 26 and to Anguilla 11.
  The MVP in the U13 was Natasha Busby from St. Maarten and the Player of the Tournament was Leann Ford from St. Maarten.
  In the U16 division, the MVP was Tikeha Bourne from St. Maarten and the Player of the Tournament was Darahnai Bryan from Anguilla.
