SIMPSON BAY—Rio Stomp continued to dominate the Laser Pico Class, during day two of the Aberson Series, part of the Grant Thornton Dinghy Season Championship.
A total of twenty-eight sailors completed the second day of the dinghy racing Series on Saturday.
Stomp won all three of the races sailed in the first leg of the series and maintained the overall lead with two firsts, two seconds and a third place in the five races sailed in the second leg.
James Lennox was second and Clarice Darling was third.
The competition was divided into several class.
Sailors from St. Barths, Antonin Tibo and crew took the win in the RS Quest Class with Melina de Vries together with Louka Williams in second place.
Lollie Osswald from the St. Barths Yacht Club made a strong showing in the Optimist class. Emilien Le Normand from Club de Voile de Friars Bay, won the first day of racing but Osswald sailed fast and won the series.
He was followed by Marvin Febrissy in second and Corentine Corroy in third place. Normand finished fourth.
Twelve sailors competed in the Laser Class. Jolyon Ferron sailed in Laser Standard for the first time this season. He placed first in four races and had one third place finish.
This moved him to third overall even though he did not compete in race day one.
Justin Pieterse sailed very consistent with a first place, three second places and a third place to win the Aberson Series. Frits Bus was second.
“This morning we still considered rescheduling the racing day, and in the end we have sailed five beautiful races,” said Sam Peeks, Racing Coach of the St. Maarten Yacht Club.
The next dinghy races as part of the Grant Thornton Season Championships will take place on January 8 and 22 and will be the Hoedemaker Series.
