~ With Laura Golden ~
If you love “jewellery” with special meaning or are looking for the perfect gift for a close loved one, this could be the class for you. Not only is this a learning experience, but you come out with a special feeling and with something beautiful made with your own hands!
A mala is a garland of beads with special meaning that yogis, as well as spiritual seekers from other traditions, have used for thousands of years. It is used in japa meditation to count the number of repetitions of a specific mantra, such as the traditional Buddhist phrase: Om Mani Padme Hum The Jewel is in the Heart of the Lotus.
The mala should be made with consciousness and intention to imbue it with the highest possible energy for use in meditation. Come learn the history, meaning and use of the mala, and make your own in a sacred environment. Real gemstones that are noted to attract various types of energy, such as love and intuition will be used in this workshop.
The workshop will be given by Yoga instructor Laura Golden.
Here is a little about Laura:
Laura has been practicing yoga for 25 years, half of her life, and teaching for 15 of those. “I completed a year-long teacher training in 2001 at Jivamukti Yoga Center in New York City, which is where I'd been practicing for 10 years.”
Health & Beauty wanted to know if Laura would be celebrating thanksgiving here: “Yes! One of our lovely teachers at Joga, Kasia, is turning 30 on Thanksgiving Day, so a group of us from the yoga centre (both teachers and students) are gathering to celebrate her birthday as well as the warmth of our amazing community of dedicated yogis.”
We also asked if gratitude was part of her life and how-so: “Gratitude is central to my life, not just at Thanksgiving time, but every day. Yoga means union. It teaches us that all living beings are connected – not just people, but animals and plants, the earth, the sun, the entire cosmos. Nothing we achieve is through our own efforts alone; we are always supported by this network of life, and for this I am grateful.”
Health & Beauty is grateful for Laura’s gracious answers!

What's your dosha? A sister science to Yoga Philosophy, the ancient medicine of Ayurveda (life knowledge) was developed in India thousands of years ago, and is based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body and spirit. Ayurveda names three elemental substances, the doshas (Vata, Pitta and Kapha), and states that a balance of the doshas results in health, while imbalance results in disease. Come join this fun and informative workshop and tasting session to determine your dosha and what you can do to balance it through various yoga practices and nutrition.
