Winners of the 'Veganize SXM with 5 ingredients or less'!

You can check them out on Facebook. Keywords: Veganize SXM with 5 ingredients or less. The Vegan movement has been growing strong on SXM.

There were two prizes to be won. Last Thursday morning, Mercedes De Windt handed over the cookbook to Mrs JOVELYN Cruz Stuger for her pure and delicious Sweet Potato Broccoli soup. The other prize was a lunch at Irie Gardens and was awarded to Jenny Budhrani for her creative and tasty Kimchee Grilled Sandwich.

You can find both recipes with pictures and ingredients on the Facebook event page. St. Maarten Vegans are planning on doing more of these challenges per year and will be announcing them further in advance and advertising them. “It was fun, we know we are reaching out to the curious, but we want to challenge the curious to show off their skills.”

This event was about veganizing dishes with only five ingredients or less to keep it simple and pure. “Next time, we might do raw cakes or maybe plant-based smoothies. Or what do you think of the greenest pie? We are looking for the green chefs who are creative, daring and fun – judging is done according to taste and presentation.”

The purpose of these events is to show that vegan food is just normal food, the only thing different is that it is 100% plant-based. “The way it’s prepared might be a bit different and the combinations might be unexpected, but please let the food tease your taste buds and enjoy the surprises.”

Mercedes continues, “The possibilities are endless. After nine years of being vegetarian and six years vegan, I still can't get enough of it. I keep discovering new veggies, fruits, grains and combinations, and ways to cook or un-cook because RAW vegan is the new big thing. Veganism is not a sacrifice but it's a joy; we just want to share that joy and include everybody who is open-minded.”

During the month of November, nutritionist Jackie, of the PuurJackie Blog, shall be posting her vegan recipes every day to the St. Maarten Vegans Facebook page. She was also one of the judges at the contest!
