On December 11, the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) School, including pupils, teachers and staff, took part in the school’s first Hat and Tie Day, which was a creative and fun way to raise funds for the school.
The event was organised by the Math and Language Committee, to cover the expenses for the various Math & Language enhancement programmes and activities planned for this school year. Everyone was asked to bring $1 if they wore a Hat and Tie to school on that day, and $2 if they did not.
All was encouraged to make creative hats and ties on their own even though some had funny store-bought items. Some students made hats and ties out of paper and cardboard, others decorated ties and different types of hats with all sorts of materials.
Drawings, stickers, feathers, flowers, school art supplies, tinsel, ribbons, glitter and even a basket with Christmas ornaments were used as adornments. Everyone who participated had fun showing the hats and ties off in school!
Students with the best-designed Hat and Tie received prizes. There were 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes given in two age categories: Cycle 1 (K- G2) and Cycle 2 (G3-G6). The winners were selected based on everyone’s applause.
The school hopes to make this an annual event.
