MAC students learn about our institutions

~ John A Gumbs Campus shows its pride ~

Mrs. Darleen Tonge-Richards’ fifth grade students got out the glue, paint, glitter and their creativity to make some awesome projects for their unit on institutions. The teacher gave them two weeks during February to come up with a project about these important organizations that help our nation stay strong and happy.

Some of the students made collages of pictures that showed lots of different kinds of institutions, while others created models of buildings. They used card board boxes and styrofoam to fashion buildings like The Westin Hotel, the Police Station, the Fire Department and the Hospital. Some even made rooms inside with little people in there, having meetings or doing work.

The children created their project at home on their own time and brought it into school for a show and tell. Some of them even dressed up like the people that work at that institution! They had a lot of fun and were very proud of the results. Many of the institutions have even asked if they can keep the projects to be on display! Way to go, fifth graders! This was some impressive work!
