What did you do to try out for the Voice Kids?
My mother posted a video of me singing “Thinking out loud” – a song from the singer Ed Sheeran on Facebook which went viral – and then she sent it to the Voice Kids. Within two days, she was contacted by them.
How has your family helped you throughout the experience?
I have lots of support from my family. My Grandparents helped me and my mother did a lot for me.
How did you feel when you became one of the contestants on the Voice Kids?
I was very excited, and even impatient. I was excited to meet the other kids that would be participating and was ready to go on stage.
Were you afraid that you would make mistakes?
As long as I practice, I know I’ll do well. When I don’t practice, then I know I may not perform at my best. I practice and think positively.
What were the people who worked at the show like?
Everyone was very professional, they welcomed my mother and me and we felt as if we were all family. We had chaperones, which were young adults and they made sure we were comfortable at all times.
How many times did you sing?
I sang four times.
Why did you choose the songs that you sang?
The first song I sang was “Halo” by Beyonce; it was the first song I ever sang in public and at other events. I also sang “Thinking out loud” – this was the song that got me on the show.
What was the best thing about the whole experience?
Knowing and realizing that I was in the finals. I did what I went to achieve.
What are your plans now?
I have a lot of projects coming up, I can’t share them as yet. I don’t plan to stop at all and you will be seeing more of me.
Where would you like to travel to?
I would love to go to China because it’s far from here and I would like to see the far ends of the world.
Do your friends treat you any differently now?
They are nicer to me than they were before. At times, I am asked to take pictures with others in school; I’m even asked to sing, but I am in school to learn, so I focus on school.
What would you like to be when you grow up?
I would like to be a singer, but I also want to study business. This will help me to be able to understand what is written in my contracts and will help me learn how to count money. And if I don’t make it in singing, I will be able to fall back on my business study.
