You don’t have to be a grown-up to make a difference – volunteering is a great help to others, and it also helps you to learn new skills, make new friends, and be part of something bigger than yourself.
SXM DOET, one of the biggest events on the island, is taking place once again on Friday, March 13, and Saturday, March 14. The yearly initiative takes place all across the Dutch Kingdom, gathering volunteers together to make big things happen!
Last year, over 1,800 people joined hands here in St. Maarten to make a difference, volunteering their time to complete some 112 community projects. Lots of them were kids, too!
Many organisations benefit from the extra help, including schools. Is your school one of them this year? If so, you can take pride in your school and help to make it a nicer place for you, your friends, and your teachers! We bet you would be surprised at what some volunteers can accomplish in a couple of days.
It can also be fun to do the activities with your schoolmates, or family members. There are about 90 projects to choose from, so you’re sure to find something you would like to do – whether that’s collecting food for the needy, helping dogs and cats, or sprucing up a playground.
