Percy Rankin
Percy, who sports long dreadlocks, started “Percy Rankin and the Bonfire Band” in 2002, but his love for music goes way back to his younger years growing up in French St. Martin, where he was born.
Coming from a family of musicians, Percy found it easy to get involved in the industry. His father was a sax player and his uncle played base-guitar so he felt as though music was destined for him. He discovered his love of music when he was just out of diapers and actually started dabbling in music from as far back as he could remember.
Percy played marbles and flew kites as a child. He also played music on old cars which people had abandoned and discarded.
The lead singer in the band, Percy is supported by other talented music makers. The group is diverse and plays a wide genre of music from universal rock and soca to reggae and other sounds. Percy is probably best known for his original hit and most popular tourist song “Smile,” (you’re in St. Maarten). He has an original album with six hits as well as a single “Can’t predict tomorrow.” He is currently working on his new single “Changes.”
“Percy Rankin and Bonfire Band” has opened for a number of international musicians such as Shaggy and Third World. Percy’s vocals are strong and captivating almost as if he was born to sing and born to sing reggae in particular.
