Your chances to celebrate 2016 are coming to an end, and finally there's just one big event left on the horizon: New Year's Eve. It's the night you'll be saying goodbye to the year that was, and welcoming a new one in style. So it's only fitting that you want to dress your best for the big occasion! Some choose to stand out on New Year’s Eve with some sparkle and others show major skin; but no matter what you're looking to wear, make sure your outfit lets you shine.
One of fall’s top trends has carried over into the “winter” – velvet! If you opt for that texture, you may choose to slip into a flattering dress for your evening. But of course, you can’t mention New Year’s Eve without mentioning sequins. If you don’t want to wear a completely blinged-out cocktail dress, try a more conservative option – a glittery pencil skirt paired with a neutral top. Or just go shimmery with your accessories; a pair of metallic pumps or a neon cross-body bag should do the trick!
If you’re hosting a casual party with friends or watching fireworks with family from your porch, you can still get into the spirit with subtle style upgrades and accessories. Instead of your go-to jeans, opt for a pair of fun-coloured leggings – they’re just as comfy, but twice as glam. Stick with a comfortable top, but up the ante with a cool cowlneck or lower-cut V. Finally, don’t forget the bling! Add just a hint of gold with a bold bangle or some killer statement earrings.
Men? There isn’t much better excuse to dress up formally than at a fancy New Year’s Eve party. Depending on the dress code of the event, wearing a black tie outfit is a simple and stylish way to impress at any party. Consisting of a black dinner jacket and trousers over a crisp white dress shirt, this is arguably the most classic of formal styles. If you want to add some personality to your look, then accessorize with a different colour tie and waistcoat.
Not nearly going to anything that fancy? A good pair of casual jeans, a buttoned up white shirt and some swanky new shoes will always do the trick. It ultimately comes down to what you’re most comfortable in, although we ladies always do appreciate a man that makes a bit of an effort!
All glammed up? Now all you need is the champagne!
