Fireman’s Ball on March 30 at PdP to be lit

Get ready for a night of dancing with some of the country’s bravest men and women at the 20th edition of the Fireman’s Ball this Saturday, March 30, under the tent at Princess Port de Plaisance in Cole Bay.

The evening will be lit and will include great entertainment from a line-up of highly rated entertainers and the good thing is that you will also be supporting a worthy cause. Party time is 8:00pm to 4:00am, so there will be plenty of time to enjoy a real entertaining night out.

St. Maarten Fire Fighters Foundation, which is coordinating the event, told Out N About the event will be held under the theme “Together we Can.”

Every year during the month of March, the Fire Fighters Foundation hosts its annual Fireman’s week of activities leading up to Fireman’s Day, which is usually observed on the last Friday in March.

The Foundation says the Ball targets everyone, who wants to have a good time while supporting a worthy cause, and it encourages “everyone who would like to have a fulfilled evening of dancing and socializing with great entertainment” to come out to the event.

Entertainment for this highly anticipated event will be provided by DJ Black Boy, Control Band and Onyan Effect out of Antigua.

Women are urged to come early as the first 25 ladies will receive a complimentary drink.

“We are very grateful to Port de Plaisance for hosting our Fireman’s Ball for the past five years,” the Foundation said. The Fireman’s Ball started back in the 80’s at the then Wathey’s Estate and was for some time held at Maho Convention Centre. Then for several years after that, it was held in the ballroom of The Westin Dawn Beach Resort.

Tickets cost US $15 per person in advance ($20 at the gate) and are available at Van Dorp and Oasis Restaurant – both on the A.Th. Illidge Road, and at Big D’s Photo Studio located on Walter Nisbeth Road (the Pondfill). Proceeds will go to Philipsburg Jubilee Library, which was completely damaged during the passing of Hurricane Irma in September 2017.

Every year, the Foundation chooses an organization to benefit from its fundraisers and thought it necessary to support the library this year. “The library was struck by Hurricane Irma and ever since it has been in dire need of much-needed funds for its renovation. We decided to include the library in this year's fundraising activities seeing the necessity of this valuable institution. The library is vital to our community; it serves as a centre of learning and professional development,” said the Foundation.

The Foundation has supported numerous projects over the years including donating computers and supplies to various schools, aided many sporting organisations, provided contribution to the senior citizens home when it was located in Philipsburg and provided temporary monetary medical assistance to needy families.

The Fireman’s Week of activities opened with a fundraising car wash and barbecue on Saturday, March 23, in the Philipsburg Jubilee Library parking lot. More than 100 vehicles were washed during the event which Foundation President Glen Macnack described as a success. The barbecue was sold out.

Other activities held for Fireman’s Week included a church service at the Anglican Church on March 24 and visits to the senior citizens home on March 25 and to several schools to read to pupils on March 26 and 27.

Today, Thursday, March 28, the foundation will host a Sports Day where emergency service personnel will be competing in a Basketball and Futsal tournament. The week of activities will wrap up with the highly anticipated Fireman’s Ball at Port de Plaisance this Saturday.

The board of the Fire Fighters Foundation was formed in 1985. It was established to bring firefighters and the community together and so that the foundation can assist with community projects and provide financial assistance and other related support services to the needy.

Current members of the foundation are President Glenn Macnack, Vice President Eric Chase, Secretary Marisela Gomez, Vice Secretary Christopher Schoop, Treasurer Swendi Angel, Vice Treasurer Keith Fleming and Board Member Jermaine Levons.

Don’t miss this event.
