INDISU Dance Theater of St. Maarten presents Bells Will Be Ringing

The best way to spice things up and get yourself and your family into the holiday spirit this year, is to attend the 2024 Christmas production “Bells Will Be Ringing” – directed and choreographed by Susha Hein and Ihndhira Marlin with a cast of 70 performers. The production will be held at the Cultural Center in Philipsburg this weekend – on Saturday, December 7, at 7:00pm and on Sunday, December 8, at 4:00pm. Tickets can be purchased at Van Dorp (both locations), EBS (Bush Road) or INDISU Studios (Cole Bay) and cost $25 each for adults and $20 for students/teens.

The Out n About went to experience the opening weekend, and this Christmas spectacular literally keeps you on your toes with its infusion of dance genres, from jazz and ballet to modern and fusion/hip hop. They also integrate vocals directed by Nalia Muriel Fleming. There is never a dull moment when watching this youthful, energetic and talented St. Maarten group, as they switch colourful costuming and lively song choices with a constant rotation of their five companies – Baby Company, Junior, Junior Elite, Teen Elite and The Company.

A few special shout-out mentions are Ian Soriano and seven-year-old Malachi Hodge, in hopes that other young men will also take up dancing. Surya Bille leads in the Nutcracker, Sidanae Davelaar Richardson in the Gospel, Mai-Angel Martis in the Afro Modern, Eliane Berwers and Danielle Hodge in War is Over, Savannah Ortega alongside Ian Soriano in the Modern “By Christmas Eve”, which was dedicated to two INDISU moms who were lost this year – namely, Swindie Hanson-Maurin and Melinda Hoeve.

Susha and Ihndhira are the primary choreographers, with special thanks to vocal director Nalia Muriel Fleming and guest choreographers Kishana Vlaun, Rudolph Davis, Gio Webstar, Gae-lye Hanson-Maurin and Ashley Matser. This includes a steelpan performance by dancer Amalia Peterson during Christmas Morning in St. Maarten.

We don’t want to give away too much more, as we recommend that you go see it for yourself. You will love the Christmas Classic and other highlights, including the jazzy “Santa, Bring me a Man” duet that brings in a bit of comedy and maturity, while Baby Company really wows the crowd with their cuteness and ability to remember all their steps. The ballet portion exudes elegance, some cultural and St. Maarten vibes are also integrated into the show in a creative way, and the Grinch makes an appearance! So we highly recommend you get your holiday mojo going… because the BELLS WILL BE RINGING.

Special thanks to the small but strong INDISU Team – Mirela Sumanariu, Dominique Hodge and Abigail Peterson, William Marlin, Yvette Ambris and Christian Richardson for Bami and cookies, Janique Coram of Just Creative for the beautiful stage decor, and all volunteer moms in the front and back of the house for their dedication, time and energy.
