Learn to sew with Leighloe studio

Looking for a wholesome hobby? Or maybe you’re sick of buying clothes everyone else seems to already have? Why not try making your own? With sewing classes at Leighloe studio, you’ll be crafting your unique pillowcases, skirts and jackets in no time!

Jo-Ann Schet is ready to help beginners embark on their sewing journey. She also wants to help those, who can already sew, elevate their skills. Beginners do not need to have any prior sewing knowledge, whereas those in the intermediate classes are expected to know the basics.

Jo-Ann has been sewing all her life, as sewing was passed down through generations by her ancestors. At just four years old, she learned the family trade from her grandmother, and decided to start teaching just four years ago, when one of her clients expressed interest in learning the ropes. Though it took this client some convincing, Jo-Ann taught her everything she knew about sewing, discovering in the process that she loved sharing her knowledge and skills with others.

In two-hour weekly classes, Jo-Ann will teach you all there is to know about creating your own clothes and linens. This sewing master has developed 20 courses, each focused on making a different product. Beginners start with a pillow case, and work their way up gradually to a skirt, a dress and eventually, a jacket.

Because Jo-Ann aims to keep her classes personal, only three to four persons can attend a session. That way, she is able to work with different levels by giving everyone the attention they deserve so they can excel.

Beginners need not worry about supplies: Jo-Ann will provide all the tools and machines necessary to work in her studio. Think zippers, buttons, interfacing, thread and, of course, needles. All you need to bring is your own fabric, which means you get to fully customise whatever it is you are making. Jo-Ann will advise how much fabric you need for each project, and which kind is best suited for the task.

Students are also encouraged to practice at home. This is very important, explains Jo-Ann, as class is only once a week. That is why students are able to buy a special starter kit to elevate their sewing skills from the comfort of their own home.
