Ode to St. Paddy

Please raise your glass and let the ale run free
For today we sing praises of celebrity,
We wine in remembrance of nobility
Though really we don’t need an excuse
It’s the celebration of our favorite saint,
Cheers to Saint Paddy.

A religious day with much anointment
A feast of cheering and no disappointment
Originated first on the Isle of Ire
Now globally adopted with feverish desire

St. Patrick’s Day is what I mean
Situated this year on March seventeen
If you’re feeling blue just come in green
But never come alone, that is unseen.
And be polite, we never fight
Cheers to liquid courage that gives us might
To overcome and over stand
With pitchers firmly held in one hand.

Take at least one more drink
Tell the bar keep it’s on me
And we can share stories of good ole saint paddy
Of the boy who was stolen and then later found by god
Of his bold crusade to be Christian while surrounded by the pagan hoard
Of the days when snakes were rampant, and I do not refer to the beasts
Though regardless the forms these creatures took
He drove them out, to say the least.

So raise your glass I plead once more
St. Patrick’s day has reached our shores
From the Irish isle to the Caribbean sea
I will this day be as Irish as I can be.

I will wear green that matches our hills
I will raise my glass that runeth over still,
I will count my blessings on this four leaf clover
And tell the little green man to hand his riches over

But until that time comes
One more cheer for all to see
Raise your glass one more time
And make a toast for you and me
We celebrate the Irish patron Saint in our own St. Maarten way
So to all my Irish neighbors, a very Happy Saint Patrick’s Day.
