Roxanne: Don’t bring your girlfriend

On Sint Maarten, you definitely hear the term “girls’ night” more often than “guys’ night”. I guess this is because when it’s girls’ night, guys show up too. However, it would become a sausage fest if a club were to have a “guys’ night”. However, guys, you should still have a guys’ night, because when the combined pressures of work, relationships and finances start to drive you nuts, there is no better remedy than a guys’ night out.

It is good for guys to just go out with their best-guy pals and let loose once in a while. You guys can even organize to go to a girls’ night out for your guys’ night out! The point is to hang out with your best guy-pals. You can relax, say or do things that are too embarrassing to do around your ladies, and blow off steam.

Sure, there may be some casualties along the way, and you could find yourself involved in bouts of public nakedness, vulgarity and heavy drinking, but one thing is certain –you’ll have one hell of a good time! Below are some ideas for a guys’ night out:

Sports

Figure out if there is a nearby live sports game or a great match to be televised. Get together a bunch of friends and head out to catch a game or to your favourite sports bar. You can yell, cheer, eat fatty food and drink to your heart’s content. You may not know everybody in the stadium or bar by name, but together you are sharing a guys’ night out!

Poker

Poker night is on the fast rise to becoming a favourite adult playtime. Enjoy time with your guys while getting a bit competitive. Just a warning: Men take their card games pretty seriously, and there's nothing pretty about it.

Movie

In the same way that you hate chick flicks, your girl probably finds it hard to appreciate the latest dumb comedy, horror or action movie. This is a great opportunity for a low-key boys’ night out, a couple of drinks and a healthy dose of escaping reality.

Pool

Guys love their games, drinks and competition. Head to a pool bar or hall and make a tournament night out of it. You can bet small amounts of cash, have the loser buy the next round of drinks or even do a dare-type repercussion for each game lost.

Beer crawl

This one can get messy but is always a lot of fun. Invite your best friends, and plan a route and goal to each of your favourite bars. Grab a different beer at each bar and let the fun begin.

When organizing a guys’ night out, remember the following rules:

  1. 1. Don’t bring your girlfriend.

This rule is self-explanatory. It’s a night out with the guys.

  1. 2. Don’t be difficult.

When you’re out for a good time, you should bring along a fun and easy-going attitude.

  1. 3. Don’t be cheap.

Be generous and festive. If you are unable to afford a night-out, then it may be best to stay in or discuss cheaper options with your friends.

  1. 4. Don’t be a douche.

Good times can sometimes get a bit rowdy. However, don’t go out actually looking for trouble. By trouble we mean actual trouble. Don’t be rude to servers. Don’t try to pick fights with random people. Don’t try to get arrested.

  1. 5. Leave no man behind.

Always ensure that your group is intact before you go home. Being a friend means making sure that your boys are all right.
