Fundraising Family Fun Day Nov 11
We all want to unwind and enjoy our lives a bit more after experiencing the horrors and widespread destruction of Hurricane Irma on September 6.
St. Maarten/St. Martin Day is one of the perfect days to do so. One of the many local activities that will be held for this special day is a fundraising family fun day hosted by Dance and Arts Dimensions Academy in collaboration with Belair Community Centre.
Called “Extreme Fun Day Fundraiser,” the event will be held on Saturday, November 11, from 8:00am and will continue with fun activities throughout the day and wrap up in the evening hours. Funds raised will go towards the rebuilding cost for damages sustained to the academy during the storm.
Event coordinator told Out n About that the day will be one where persons can gather with family and friends and celebrate: “We are proud to be able to host such an event to raise funds to assist with damages sustained during hurricane Irma. This family fun day will be a great opportunity for families to get together to feel a sense of togetherness especially after such a massive loss in the community after Hurricane Irma.”
There will be lots of games and activities for the family, including treasure hunts, trampolines, bounce house and balloons.
Breakfast will be served from 8:00am and will be traditional treats of soups and Johnny cake, and salt fish and Johnny cake with bush tea. Lunch will be available from 11:00am to 4:00pm and will comprise your favourite treats, such as, barbecued chicken, ribs and cakes.
Also taking place during the day will be the showing of two movies: The first at 2:00pm and the second at 4:00pm.
Coordinators are inviting the entire community to come out to Belair Community Centre for this fun event. “If you don’t have anything else happening on that day, feel free to bring your entire family to the event. I know that we have all sustained such great damages during the passing of Irma, but we are alive and we have sanity and a great opportunity to give God thanks for what He has brought us through. We can now start over and not give up, which is part of our culture. Come to the event hungry and come attired in your national colours – red, white and blue –and let’s celebrate St. Maarten Day with pride.”
