Song Festival

Justice Song Festival & Dance at PdP Friday

When they are not busy maintaining law and order, some members of the Justice chain are known to use their musical talent to entertain others.

This is exactly what talented members of the disciplined services on both sides of the island will do for the first Justice Song Festival and Dance scheduled for Rock House Restaurant at Princess Port de Plaisance and Casino tomorrow Friday, October 9, from 8:00am to 3:00am.

The song festival will be followed by a dance where you can dance the night away to the tunes of Youth Waves Band. Snacks and drinks will be on sale.

The event is geared towards raising much-needed funds to help offset expenses for members of St. Maarten Justice Department to attend Police Week in Aruba next year.

Performing at the Song Festival will be Fire Department officers Esmond Hodge and Michael Hodge, who promise to “burn the place down”; immigration representative Kenisha “K-Wyse” Hill; French St. Martin police representative Fabian “Silk” Richards who will be coming “A la Francaise”; St. Maarten VKS representatives Tony Rogers and Kelvin “The Builder” Mason and Dutch Police Force representative Angelo “Mr. Lover Boy” Blijden and Naomi “Lady Christina” Alexander. Winners will be given trophies and some nice prizes.

Singer and entertainer King Beau Beau will be the Master of Ceremonies while DJ Black Boy will be spinning tunes at the turntables.

“I think the Justice Song Festival will be the best place to be this weekend because you will be able to witness some of our law enforcement officers compete to be the golden voices of justice on the island. They have been rehearsing very hard and plan to give a very entertaining show,” said Jessica Christina, who is coordinating the event with the team from the St. Maarten Police Sports Organisation.

“We don't know how much we are going to raise; but we are hoping the public comes out and supports us in large numbers.”

The Police Sports Organisation usually hosts the Police Song Festival annually. The winner usually defends the Force at the Dutch Kingdom Police Sports Week; but in an effort to build a stronger social relationship amongst workers in the justice chain this year, the group decided to invite other departments. “Depending on the success of the event, there is a good chance we will make it an annual event. We also hosted a softball knockout where the Fire Department became champions.”

On Sunday, October 11, the group will have a Family Fun Day and Domino Competition at Emilio Wilson Park from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Representatives of the various departments will go head-to-head to earn the title e of “Domino Champs.”

Tickets for the Justice Song Festival cost US $15 per person and include entrance to the song festival and dance. Tickets can be purchased at the Philipsburg Police Station.
