Through Cam's Lens: Lockdown

“Win, win, win, win, win (Yeah) Forget everything else, win, win, win, win (Win) These pahnuhs ain't nun (Mommy), win, win, win, win Stop chasin' that gyul (Stop), win, win, win, win (Yeah)”

What it do bay-beeeeeeee!

Alright. Alright. Kuuurrr. I’m back.

A lot of people say really good things on the internet. There are some people who say that red is an amazing colour, and that’s truth. There are people who say that blue is an amazing colour, and that’s truth too. And there are even people who say that purple is an amazing colour, and believe it or not, that is also truth.

Three different perspectives. Three relevant points. Three different truths.

That was an example, by the way – there is no colour debate happening on the inter-waves.

You know who annoys me, though? Persons who have their heads so far up their butts that they can’t see or admit that someone who shares a different perspective or preference can also be right. How can you think that only your opinion matters? Like, did you create the sun and the stars? Are you, dare I say, Xerxes? Strutting down stairs, jewellery clanking, proclaiming “I am a generous god.”

Now that Spartan references have been adequately made, I will get to my point. Yeah?

In the red corner, standing at 215lbs, there are people who are belting from the top of their social media voices to: “Use this time of lockdown productively. Learn a new skill, grow a garden, learn to speak German and... AND... Don’t come out of this lockdown having not done one of these apparently mandatory things.”

I mean, to be fair, this is a truth. I get it. We have so much time on our hands now that it would be a great idea to invest that time in a way that will allow us to grow as individuals. We have all the time in the world to do those things we couldn’t do because “there were only so many hours in a day”. But that’s really all it is, a great idea.

Okay. Wait there.

You know what’s also truth? In the blue corner, standing at 210lbs, the people that are concerned with the mental health of persons who honestly have to deal with this feeling of solitary confinement; or persons who have to be at home all day with an abuser; or persons who have issues with anxiety. There are people who really just need to do nothing during this time. And as unproductive as it may seem, it’s necessary for them.

And in the purple corner, standing at 217lbs, understanding the need for balance, are the persons who realize that they need to do what’s best for them on a daily basis or weekly basis or monthly basis. Some days can be extremely productive and some days they don’t want to shower. Here we find yet another truth.

My first two weeks of lockdown, I was mad productive. Sticking to my schedule, reading, sketching, teaching online and working out daily. The last two weeks, I’ve been feeling mentally drained and all I want to do is lie in bed and play this Fishdom game on my phone.  I still read here and there; work out when I feel motivated; but bleh...

I just don’t want you to feel like there’s any one way to do this. This is a new reality for us all and we just really need to find a way to make it work for us individually. So whether you’re learning German on Rosetta Stone, or watching birds mate, or learning German while watching birds mate, make it work for you. This life thing is all about adapting and advancing.

It ain’t gatta look like anybody else’s...

SHHHHHHII…
