“I bought some artwork for one million
Two years later, that thang worth two million
Few years later, that thang worth eight million
I can’t wait to give this thang to my children”
I observe a lot. There are so many little things that happen throughout the day that teach us lessons and if we are not paying attention, we miss. The trait probably comes from the fact that I don’t really talk to people, so I don’t have anything else to do other than observe, but whatever (lol).
The other night while working at a Sweet 16 (Hi, Kyla), I noticed a trend as persons came to get their food. There were lots of people saying, “No pork please.” Also, “Can I get shrimp?” This stood out to me because it’s something that is really emphasized in traditional religious settings. However, while both pork and shrimp are known to be “unclean foods,” it’s usually the topic of pork that is heavily debated. Oh the power of the mighty Christmas ham!
This struck a nerve for me because I personally have an issue with just telling people what to do versus giving them information that allows them to make good decisions on their own, especially in traditional religious settings, it comes off as: “If I tell them what to do, then they depend on me for the information; but if I give them the knowledge to make these decisions on their own, then they won’t need me.”
There’s such a huge disconnect here when you see people doing things because they’ve been told to do or they’ve been raised doing it this way, but they have no idea as to why they’re doing it. I’m sure that when Jay-Z said, “I can’t wait to give this thang to my children,” he meant passing it down along with the reason why he’s passing it down and how they can continue the process. It’s much more than just leaving them money.
I hate ending off feeling like I have so much more to say (lol). Sometimes it just bothers me when I’m listening to the way people speak about religion and the Bible, and I see the way they act based on “biblical principles.” You can tell that they’re in an environment of “do-do-do” and no “why-why-why”.
Before I get into any more trouble than this rant is already going to bring, let me leave you off with a quote: “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime” ~Lao Tzu
