~ Launch party upcoming Monday ~
It’s time for consumers to be able to seamlessly access taxis, across associations and from all around the island, through a single and simplified digital platform: the new SXM Taxi app. All drivers are invited to the SXM Taxi official launch party on Monday, December 2, at Sand Bar. Here, you’ll learn about the ins-and-outs of working with the app, along with all the benefits of joining. The launch party will also feature great entertainment by Percy Rankin and DJ King Kembe, and free food and drink.
Sign-up assistance will be available on site, so that interested drivers can easily enrol and become reachable to the market with just a few taps on their smartphones.
These types of apps are in high-demand and have been successful, even essential, in other countries. Many of us use them with ease while abroad, so why not bring the technology home? That’s what Lissa Gumbs, better known as Big Twin, thought to herself.
Gumbs, a taxi driver since the age of 23, holds the taxi number 330 and is part of the Dutch St. Maarten Taxi Association. Her twin sister, Liesje Gumbs, has taxi 329.
Lissa travels a lot, and saw how easy it is as a consumer to use the apps. She had been thinking about creating something similar here at home, seeing how much of a benefit it would be for the island, both for the taxi drivers and visitors. It would be a major convenience, and help to modernise the destination on a whole – transforming the overall customer/service provider experience.
Meeting Anthony Piacquadio, who later became the app developer, was amazing, Lissa said, because he understood app development while she understood the industry and had envisioned how the app could be used. Together, they made SXM Taxi a reality.
All licenced taxi drivers, from both the Dutch and French sides, are invited to the launch party – don’t miss out! Bring your professional paperwork, and have your vehicle picture-ready. The launch party starts at 7:00pm sharp on Monday, December 2, at Sand Bar in Maho.
