PHILIPSBURG--Twelve new COVID-19 cases and ten recoveries were registered on Tuesday, December 29, bringing the total number of active cases to 88. The total number of confirmed cases is now 1,423.
Collective Prevention Services (CPS) did not conduct any testing on Monday. Testing resumed on Tuesday and will continue throughout the week.
“We are still awaiting negative results from both labs to update the total number tested. As we approach the end of 2020, continue to practise the mandatory guidelines implemented and wear a mask, maintain a social distance of two metres, practise good hand hygiene and be cautious when in large gatherings,” it was stated in a press release.
In the meantime, CPS is monitoring 84 persons in home isolation. Four patients are hospitalised at St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC). The total number of deaths due to COVID-19 remains at 27.
The number of persons recovered since the first case surfaced in St. Maarten has increased to 1,308 and 149 persons are in quarantine based on contact-tracing investigations carried out by CPS.
The Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labor VSA Airport Health Team in collaboration with Health Care Laboratory St Maarten (HCLS) has tested 1,865 travellers arriving at Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA), while CPS has tested 9,775 persons in the community.
As the numbers continue to fluctuate, CPS will continue to actively execute its contact-tracing measures.
