Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport.
ANGUILLA--The Ministry of Infrastructure has reported that the repaving of the Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport runway has resulted in an improvement of the Pavement Classification Number (PCN) from 22 to 37. This improvement means that aircraft with a higher classification can safely operate as the load-bearing strength is improved. The second phase of the runway upgrade will begin in mid-June and will involve the grooving of the runway to improve grip as well as the completion of the markings. The majority of the work took place at night to ensure minimal disruption to flight operations.
The resurfacing was funded by the UK government. Governor Dileeni Daniel Selvaratnam commented, “Resurfacing the airport runway represents successful delivery of another project with additional funding outside of the Anguilla Programme. This was a critical support to the maintenance of Anguilla’s tourism infrastructure by ensuring the airport meets required operational standards and is able to support increased air traffic flows.”
Minister of Infrastructure Haydn Hughes said he was pleased the governor had been able to accede to his request for funding in such a short time. “This exemplifies the partnership that we are forging with Her Majesty’s government – a partnership built on mutual respect and a clear direction for the development of Anguilla,” he said. He added that the increase will enable larger aircraft to land and will ensure that the airport surpasses regulatory standards as the island aims to develop new routes into Anguilla. He thanked the persons involved in the project.
Executive Airport Manager Jabari Harrigan said he appreciates the UK and Anguilla governments for their commitment to the safety of the travelling public. “It is our aim to not only meet, but exceed our regulatory requirements and this goes a long way in doing just that,” he said.
