AUC offering scholarships for St. Maarten residents

CUPECOY--American University of the Caribbean (AUC) School of Medicine announced on Tuesday that full “St. Maarten Partnership Scholarships” are currently available to eligible St. Maarten residents.

The scholarships cover full cost of tuition to attend AUC.

“We’re proud to award deserving individuals a tuition-free opportunity to pursue a career as a physician. AUC students gain a unique experience and an excellent education at an international medical school with a truly global focus,” AUC Executive Dean Heidi Chumley said in a press release. “Our graduates go onto prestigious careers in medicine and we encourage St. Maarten residents to apply to AUC and join our strong tradition of advancing health care.”

“The Ministry congratulates all the scholarship recipients and looks forward to their graduation and subsequently their return to serve the community of St. Maarten. We are pleased to have AUC as a strategic partner in the education of our local students in the medical field,” said Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Wycliffe Smith.

“I encourage those interested in the field of medicine to make use of this unique opportunity and apply to AUC where I have no doubt that they will receive a solid foundation at a top-class medical institution.”

To qualify for the scholarships, individuals must be residents of St. Maarten and accepted to study at AUC. The academic scholarships cover all tuition cost as long as the recipients maintain satisfactory grades throughout their enrolment at AUC. The university said it will send scholarship applications to eligible individuals.

Four current scholarship recipients are set to graduate this academic year: Doran Joseph; Vivian Vu, Kevin R. Simon; and Nilesh Dialani, all of whom are doing their clinical rotations in the United States. Another recipient, Darlene Gumbs, is finishing her fifth semester at AUC.
