William W. Euson, known as Uncle Bill, celebrated his 100th birthday on Wednesday in St. Eustatius Auxiliary Home. Euson (seated) is the oldest man on the island, but the title of the oldest person is held by Albertha “Sister” Timber-Maynard.
Government Commissioner Marcolino “Mike” Franco said usually women are the ones to grow too much older than men as such it is not every day that a man reaches 100 years. One hundred years is the equivalent of five generations, added Franco. “I see here today that Mr. Euson is surrounded by his family which represents those five generations … Mr. Euson is also Antillean. I heard that he has worked on the islands of Aruba, Curacao, Saba and Santo Domingo.” Euson will have a larger celebration on May 19, at which Franco intends to present him with a special gift.
